No. Foundations of Flight is designed for first-time pilots, new drone owners, and beginners who want structured instruction. The course begins with aircraft setup, safety, controls, and preflight preparation before progressing to hands-on flight exercises.

Students learn how to prepare for a flight, inspect and configure the aircraft, understand the controller, take off and land safely, maintain orientation, maneuver with precision, manage basic camera functions, respond to common situations, and complete a deliberate postflight process.

Foundations of Flight is a four-hour course. The session combines instructor demonstrations, guided practice, safety discussions, progressive flight exercises, and a final practical flight that allows students to apply the skills they developed.

No. Foundations of Flight is a practical flight-training course and does not issue an FAA Remote Pilot Certificate or replace Part 107 exam preparation.
Students who plan to fly for business, compensation, or another nonrecreational purpose are responsible for meeting applicable FAA requirements. Patriot Drone Operations offers separate Part 107 preparation for students pursuing commercial certification.

You do not need to own a drone to benefit from the course. Training-aircraft availability and equipment arrangements will be identified in the course registration information.
If you already own a drone, you may be encouraged to bring it so you can learn the controls, settings, and procedures for the aircraft you plan to operate. Contact Patriot Drone Operations before class to confirm that your aircraft is appropriate for the training location.

Drone operations depend on suitable wind, visibility, precipitation, temperature, airspace, and site conditions. Patriot Drone Operations evaluates these factors before and during every training session.
Outdoor exercises may be adjusted, delayed, relocated, or rescheduled when conditions do not support safe and productive training. Registered students will receive instructions if the training plan changes.

Foundations of Flight is conducted at suitable training locations in the San Antonio region. Sites are selected based on airspace, available operating area, accessibility, weather, and the skills scheduled for that session.
The confirmed meeting location and arrival instructions will be provided to registered students before the course.

Foundations of Flight is designed as a small-group course, generally serving approximately 2-6 students. Keeping the class small allows instructors to observe each student, provide immediate feedback, and adjust exercises to different experience levels.
Private and organization-specific training may also be available.
